This is one of the most important things to me. I go visit it every month or so, Melissa and I went on Monday. The museum moved it a few years ago and I’m not very happy about its new home—in a vitrine on a wall, whereas it used to be in a horizontal table-like case. The spoon is next to the cup and saucer, not on the saucer as above. It’s also with like 6 other objects, and COME ON IT’S MORE IMPORTANT THAN THEY ARE. It’s true the Bride with Her Throat Cut is also in a grouping but THE CUP. I mean there are 900 giant Picassos being violent towards women everywhere, can you give us a fucking break with the cup? Does the museum even have a Leonora Carrington, I am now wondering? I mean Surrealist women is a thing they weren’t just totally part of the scene, you know? You could tell the entire story of Western Feminism with that piece. The teacup tells of empire and privilege and racial oppression, the fur is about exoticism and exploitation of resources for aesthetics and ok I sound like a junior in college* but seriously. dark red wine plummy lipstick, let it smudge, smudge it yourself, pretend it’s the blood of men who have wronged you

gold eyeliner for those moments you want to pretend you cry money you don’t have because you are broke as fuck

everything is acceptable if you think of it as performance

SO EXCITED. I mean sure, you can argue that it’s just a giant rock going down Wilshire Boulevard, but on the other hand, IT’S A GIANT ROCK GOING DOWN WILSHIRE BOULEVARD. I think my point is made.

Luckily, I only have to walk a down the block to catch a glimpse, if I can manage to stay awake.

For “Rapunzel,” Fritz Newman was locked up in a tower but his whiskers grew and grew and trailed all through the forest and that is how Monster found him and rescued him. Unfortunately I was SO GOOD at these stories that Ruby would refuse to fall asleep and keep begging for more until I was the one who would conk out.)
