"rejection sucks, but rejection-avoidance ultimately sucks more."

isabelthespy: V in an email to me just now. V is maybe the smartest most brilliant person in the world and every time i communicate with her in any way i am reminded of how lucky i am to have had the smartest most brilliant person in the world as a major force in my life since i was eight years old.

I’m not sure if I buy this. In general I am against avoiding things. But if you have experienced rejection, over and over and over again, and then some more of it, and then more still, it’s less about avoidance and more about protection and maybe even survival and acceptance.
